Opinion of Mahamahopadhyaya Sastra Kalanidhi
Pro. S. Kuppuswami Sastrigal, M. A., I. E. S., Prof. of Sanskrit
& Comparative Philology, Presidency College, Madras.

I have perused with Care Brahmasri Chinnaswami Sastri's Commen-
tary-Saravivechini-on Apadeva's Nyayaprakasa, published as No. 25 of the
Kashi Sanskrit Series, from the Chowkhamba Press, Benares, Mimamsa
soholars know well that the text of Apadeva's Nyayaprakasa, which
is generaly studied by those who seek to be introduced to the study of
Purva-Mimamsa, has been felt by students to be rather difficult in several
places, more especially for want of a suitable and reliable commentary.
This long felt desideratum has now been satisfactorily supplied by Brah-
masri Chinnaswami Sastri, in his able and lucid commentary-Sara.
vivechini,

So far two commentaries have been published on the Apadeviya:-
one by Mahamahopadhyaya Sri Krishnanatha Nyaya Panchanana, who
died a few years ago, and the other called Bhattalankara by Ananta-
deva-Apadeva's son. It may well be said that Brahmasri Chinnaswami
Sastri's Saravivechini is the best and most trustworthy commentary so far
available on the Apadeviya. It is written in a lucid style and contains
satisfactory explanations of important passages and principles. Its/value
to a student of the Mimamsa-Sastra is, in particular, enhanced by the
way in which its author has brought to bear on his work, his sound
scholarship in Mimamsa and his experience as Professor of Mimamsa for
several years as may be easily made ont from the intelligible expositions
in the commentary of relevant Sruti texts and Srauta topics and
from the Sacrifical chart appended to it. In conclusion I cannot
resist the temptation to say that the feeling of pride which I have
cherished in my good fortune to be able to own scholars of Brahmasri
PEN
Chinnaswami Sastri's type as my former pupils, is now being justified,
in a very gratifying manner by their work as successful teachers and
authors.
