The disc, Sudarśana

The disc, Sudarśana, is the foremost of the weapons of Viṣṇu and it is con-
ceived here as representing the cycle of periods beginning from the fraction
of a moment and ending with that reaching to the End of the Worlds called
the parardha, a mystic, mythological concept of the maximum duration of
time. It also represents the mind, and so by pleasing it, tranquility of mind
could be achieved.

The sword, Nandaka

The sword of Visņu reminds the commentator of the metaphorical usage
of jñānāsi, the sword of knowledge, with which one may annihilate igno-
rance. This concept is supported by quotations from the Bhagavadgītā and
Viṣṇupurāṇa.

iti śrīviṣṇupurāṇavacanāc ca avidyākośasamsthita-viśuddhādvaita-
jñānātmakam asiratnam ajñānanirasanena samyag-jñānaprakāśanāya
varivasitum arabhate.

Here, the commentator emphatically indicates that the sword represents
the pure Advaita consciousness, which is hidden inside the sheath of igno-
rance.

The club, Kaumodakī

After worshipping the sword, which is the embodiment of vidyā or knowl-
edge, the means of gaining intellect is to be achieved by the worship of the
club of Vișnu, named Kaumodakī, representing the form of the intellect.
Hence, the logical sequence of weapons is emphasised in the commentary
introducing the 5th verse in praise of Kaumodakī:
