रसनग्राह्यो गुणो रसः । स च मधुराम्ललव-
णकटुकषायतिक्तभेदात्पविधः पृथिवीजलवृत्तिः ।
पृथिव्यां षड्विधः । जले मधुर एव ॥ २० ॥
रसं लक्षयति । रसनेति । रसत्वेतिव्याप्तिपरिहाराय गुणपदम् ॥
रसस्याश्रयमाह । पृथिवीति ॥ आश्रयं विभज्य दर्शयति । ष्टथि-
व्यामिति ॥
घ्राणग्राह्यो गुणो गन्धः । स च द्विविधः । सुर-
भिरसुरभिश्च ष्टथिवीमात्रवृत्तिः ॥ २१ ॥
गन्धं लक्षयति । घ्राणेति । गन्धत्वेतिव्याप्तिवारणाय गुणपदम् ॥
त्वगिन्द्रियमात्रग्राह्यो गुणः स्पर्शः । स च त्रि-
विधः शीतोष्णानुष्णाशीतभेदात्पृथिव्यप्तेजोवायु-
वृत्तिः । तत्र शीतो जले । उष्णस्तेजसि । अनु-
ष्णाशीतः पृथिवीवाय्वोः ॥ २२ ॥
स्पर्शं लक्षयति । स्वगिति । स्पर्शत्वेतिव्याप्तिवारणाय गुणपदम् ।
संयोगादावतिव्याप्तिवारणाय मात्रपदम् ॥
20. "That quality which is known through the sense of Taste, is
called Savour. And it is of six kinds, through the differences of Sweet,
Sour, Saline, Bitter, Astringent and Pungent, residing in earth and
water. In earth, there is savour of the six kinds; and in water,
there is only the sweet savour.'
21. The quality which is apprehended by the sense of Smell, is
called Odour. And it is of two kinds;-Fragrance and Stench, resi-
ding in earth alone.'
22. That quality which is perceived only by the organ of Touch,
is called Tangibility. And it is of three kinds, through the differences
of Cold, Warm and Temperate. This quality resides in earth, water,
light and air. Coldness resides in water; Warmth in light, and Temper-
ateness in earth and air.'
