[^
153]. There are two roots recorded in the Dhātupātṭha in Bhwvādi. One is

Cyutir aāsecane (without ś in the beginning) and the other ścutir kşaranṣaraṇe. The

second one has palatal ś in the beginning, and of this there are two readings

handed down. According to one reading, there is y as a third consonant

(after c), and according to the other there is no y (as ścutir ). Bhaṭṭoji (in
Scutir .K.). Bhattoji (in
S.K.)
notes: yakaārarahito'py ayam. In P.M. he quotes:

tathā ca prayujyate madhuścutam ghṛtam iva supūtam iti.

In any case the root is only parasmaipadin. Hence the doubt.

[^
153-aa]. The printed edn. however has the reading as:

S

ś
rutvāpi tat khalu bhavān kşṣamate' tra citram.

Our author perhaps had access to the different reading.

[^
154]. See K.A.S.V.2.3, and the Vṛitti thereon. Also see S.K. on the root

cakşinṣiṅ vyaktaāyāmṃ vāci, where Bhattṭṭoji also notes the same point.

[^
155]. See S. K. after Upasargasyāyatau ( 8.2.19), where this answer is noted

by Bhattṭṭoji. He also notes:

yadva

ā anudaāttettvalakṣaṇamātmanepadam anityam iti.
