[^
87]. The MS. G reads kartariīti sūtrenṇa, and I think that the rule here is
tr

tṛ
jakābhyāmṃ kartari (2.2.15). All other MSS. read karmanṇi ca, which does not

seem to be correct. There was some confusion in the understanding of the

rules Trṛjakābhyām (2.2.15) and Kartari ca (2.2.16). For a clear interpretation,

see the P.M., and the SŚabdakaustubha.

[^
88]. Commenting on the expression gunṇiviseşśeṣaka in the Mahaābhäşāṣya under

1.4.21, Kaiyatṭa says thus:

ata eva vacanãād anityaḥ şaşthiṣaṣthīsamāsapratişṣedhaḥ.
seşasast

śeṣaṣaṣṭ
hyā vā samāsahḥ. (p. 236; Vol. II.N.S.P.)

See also the Nyāsa and the Padamafiñjariī on 4.1.33 on phalagrahitrītṛtvāt, and

on 2.2.12 (janikartuhḥ tatprayojaka ityādau seşasastśeṣaṣaṣṭhyaiva samāsasya siddhatvāt).

These are mentioned by Bhattṭṭoji in his SŚ.K. under 2.2.15.

[^
89]. See also the Nyāsa, which says:

tena

tena-
-bhişīṣmaḥ kurunāmūṇāṃ bhayaśokahartā (Mahābhārata?)
ityadi siddham

ityādi siddhaṃ
bhavati.

The Nyaāsakäāra justifies the expression by having the trṛn suffix (instead

of the usual trṛc). He however seems to imply about the first element that

it would be case of seşe şaşthi.

śeṣe ṣaṣṭhī.

[^
90]. In MSS. A & G na ca is missing. Others have it.

[^
91]. See the P.M., and the SŚ.K. on 2.3.65, and the Jayamanṅgalā and

Mallinātha on Bhattṭṭi VI.79 (or 80 ) – (dhāyair aāmodam).
