This expression means that the two persons mentioned in the next line
were famous for their proficiency in the Āyurveda, in which they surpassed,
as people thought, even the Aśvinīdevas, the two physicians of the gods.
Vaidyaśastra-kathane seems to be in the sense of "in the matter of expounding
the science of medicine".

the MS. D (i.e. R. 5068) the volume 6 of the Triennial Catalogue of Sanskrit
MSS in the Oriental (MSS.) Library, Madras, contains a note mentioning,
Dharmāvatī as the name of the mother of the author of the S.K.U. The long
ā in Dharmāvatī can probably be explained as in, and on the analogy of,
Padmāvati, though I have not seen that expression elsewhere. It is difficult
to analyse the compound form here, and also to explain the significance of
saṃgatā. Though none of the readings in this context indicates any poetic
skill on the part of the author, I prefer dharmādhipatyaṃ to the others. I
doubt whether we can explain any grades with reference to pativratādharma,
and call one as the avadhi thereof. Adhipati may be in the sense of "protector"
(of the pativratādharma). I am unable to accept Dharmāvatī as the name of
the mother of our author. See the Introduction.
