[^7]. MSS. A & E read : vämadevāya.
MSS. D & F read vāmavāmāya.
MS. C is not clear.

vamadeva is a synonym of Siva. Amara

Vamadevo mahadevo virūpākṣas trilocanaḥ.

The expressions vāmavāma- may be analysed as vāme (bhāge) vāmā yasya
sah. It would be a reference to Ardhanarīśvara form of Siva, as His left side
was taken over by Parvati according to mythology.

[^8]. MSS. A & F read : dāmakāmavighātine.

MS. D reads : vāmakāmavighātine.

Some syllables are missing here in MSS C & E.

notes :

[^11]. MS. F reads : urikxtāstravrajam.
MSS. A & E read : urikrtāsyavrajam.
In MS. C some syllables are missing.
Only MS. D reads turiyam agunair nutam

[^9]. This is a reference to a form of Visnu, also known as Vitthala. See
Apte under Vitthala.

[^
10.] Marudgana means devagana. Amarudgaņa here stands for the Pramatha-
gana. They were the demigods, who were attendants of Siva, Bhrigi,
Riti etc. The expression seems intended to mean that the Pramathaganas
eulogized Gaṇeśa to be the fourth powerful god, the three being the well-
known Trimūrtis, Brahmā, Visnu and Mahesa.

sakalabuddhisandhāyakam.

[^12]. The word bhāva has many meanings. Amara notes :

bhāvas sattāsvabhāvābhiprāyaceṣṭātmajanmasu.

So bhāvinām here means janminām, i.e. saririnśarīriṇām==samsārinām.

ṃsāriṇām.
[^
13.] Amara notes striyām: striyāṃ naus taraņis tarih.

ṇis tariḥ.
[^
14]. prakrti here means pradhāna.
