KÄVYA PRAKASA OF MAMMAȚA
[THE POETIC LIGHT] Vols. I & II
R. C. Dwivedi

The Poetic Light or Kävyaprakāśa of Mammața is a classic
text of legislative criticism in Sanskrit. It deals with the various
and varied problems of Aesthetics and Poetics and is acclaimed
to be the authority in matters of literary criticism in Sanskrit.
The first volume contains the text and translation, together with
the Sanskrit commentary by Srividyacakravartin, of the first
six Ulläsas. The second volume, contains the remaining portion
in the usual form, appended with the celebrated commentary
of Ruyyaka also, together with bibliographical notes, indices
etc. The third volume will present a comparative and critical
study of the contribution and contents of the Kavyaprakāśa.

The three volume edition of the Kavyaprakāśa together with
translation, two ancient and celebrated commentaries and a
study by Dr. R. C. Dwivedi is no doubt an outstanding contri-
bution to Indology, particularly the Alankāraśāstra.

These two Volumes complete the text and translation with the
reprint of two old commentaries. The remaining volume devoted
to the study of the Kävyaprakāśa is under way.
