Rao Bahadur K. Vireşalingam Pantulu, while fixing

the age of the poet Srinitha) in his treatise on the Telugu

Poets, Part I), has discussed the date of this author Sar-

vajña Singama Nayudu and bas arrived at the conclusion

that he was a contemporary of Praudha Devaraya of Vi-

jayanagar (1422-1447). He says further that he was the

10th in descent from Bhétála Nayudu or Chevi Reddi, the

progenitor of the Venkatagiri line of Princes, and that

his work on Poetics (Singabhnpaliya) was also known as

Chamatkara-chandrika. According to him, Srinitha was

the court poet of Venu Reddi of Rajamundry, whose ins-

eription at Bhimavaram is dated 1434 A.C. The same

Srinatha is said to have attended the Court of Sarvajña

Singama Nayudu and to have prayed to Sarasvati that he

might also approve of the title Kavi-sarvabhauma confer-

red on him by other Rulers. Srinatha''s brother-in-law,

Bammera-Fotariju, the well known author of Andhra-

Bhagavata, was the court poet of Sarvajña Singama

Nayudu, who is said to have attempted to destroy that

work on the poet''s declining to dedicate it to him.
