PREFACE

One of the programmes of Dvaita Vedanta Foundation
is to publish the biographies of the saint scholars.
Starting from Śrī Madhvavijaya, there are about two
dozen biographies of saint scholars in Sanskrit. These
are in different literary forms such as Mahākāvya, Champū
and Drama. These are important from three points
of view:

i) These give a good account of the academic and
Social achievements of the saint scholars.

ii) These contain valuable historical information about
the kings and royal families who patronised
learning and social welfare activities.

iii) These are excellent literary compositions.

The publication of these works will be useful to
the scholars as well as to the devotees.

We are now publishing in this series the unique
biographical Champūkāvya viz., Vyāsayogicarita compo-
sed by the famous poet Somanatha on the occasion
of the Vyāsarāja Vaibhava Celebrations organised by
the devotees of Śrī Vyāsarāja.

Somanatha was a younger contemporary of Śrī
Vyāsarāja. He had the previlege of personally observing
Śrī Vyāsarāja''s great deeds and academic achievements.
He gives a graphic account of Śrī Vyāsarāja's life
's life
and the contemporary events. He also describes the
great devotion of King Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagar
