predecessors and was honoured by the king Bukka.
He also received honours from Gajapathi, the ruler
of Kalinga and the king of Vengi. It also appears
from the text which is corrupt and hence difficult
to follow, that a learned scholar by name Kālamegha-
dhwari was the grand father of Somanātha's mother.
It is believed that the famous poet Anantha Bhatta,
the author of Champū Bhārata, was a grand son of
Kālameghadhwari. Probably, the mother of Somanātha,
was a sister of Anantha Bhaṭṭa.
 
Somanātha says in the present work, that he was
introduced to Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha, by Śrī Nārāyaṇa yati
who had great admiration for Somanātha. Srī Vyāsa
Tīrtha was in the Viśwapāvana Matha in Vijayanagar.
Achyuta Devaraya, the successor of Śrī Kṛṣṇadevaraya
was ruling the empire. Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha was very old
when Somanātha met him. He had already heard of
Somanātha as a poet of great distinction and greeted
him affectionatly.
 
अये... वत्स सोमनाथ कवे, कारुण्येन कमलासहायस्य वर्धसे
किमव्याहतेन मङ्गलेन !
 
At the bidding of Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha, Somanātha kavi
stayed in the Viswa Pāvana Matha for several days.
 
During the stay of Somanātha kavi in the Matha,
once Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha held a great court. Many yogins
and other desciples had surrounded Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha
who adorned the pitha. Rulers of other countries were
also present. Great scholars in Vyākaraṇa, Nyāya and
other branches of Sastra were also there. With the
permission of Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha, Somanātha kavi had
his work 'Vyāsayogi charitam' recited by two pathakas
