Somanātha describes him as an emperor endowed with

rare qualities. (During his regime the empire gets

expanded). He too is a great devotee of Srī Vyāsa

Tīrtha. By the influence of his guru he becomes a

great Bhāgavata. He is used to visit his guru whom

he regards as his kuladevata, thrice a day and receive

his blessings.

Once the king, in a hurry, seeks permission to

meet Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha. Having met he submits as follows.

The ruler of Kalinga called Vidyādhara Pātra, being

induced by some of the scholars of his court, has

sent, through his senāpathi, a philosophical text. He

wants to send it back in a few days with the critical

observations of his holiness. The move of the Kalinga

king is obvious. He wants to embarass Srī Vyāsa Tīrtha

and also Śrī Kṛṣṇa Devarāya. He is made to believe

by his scholars that the work is beyond the reach

of Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha. Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha who could read

the mind of the Kalinga king asks to wait for a while

and in his very presence prepares a fitting reply, severely

criticising the work with unassailable counter arguments.

He asks the king to send the reply to the Kalinga

ruler on the some day. Srī Kṛṣṇa Devaraya who could

not believe his own eyes, has no words to express

his boundless joy. The poet describes beautifully the

feelings of the king at that time. At that moment

the king feels a strong urge in him to offer and worship

Śrī Vyāsa Tīrtha with all that he has earned in his

life the countries, the fame, the wealth and whatever

he has.
