देव्युवाच
तत्त्वमेव परं मूलं निश्चितं तत्त्ववादिभिः ।
तत्त्वस्वरूपं किं देव तत्त्वमेव प्रकाशय ॥ ५ ॥
 
Devī said Certainly the philosophers have decided the
Elements as the final substance of the Universe; but kindly
reveal to me the nature of the Elements.
 
ईश्वर उवाच
 
निरञ्जनो निराकार एको देवो महेश्वरः ।
 
तस्माद / काशमुत्पन्नमा काशा द्वायुसंभवः
 
Isvara said
 
॥ ६ ॥
 
There is one Supreme Lord devoid of Maya
and Form; from Him originated the Akāśa (Sky) and from
ākāśa the Vāyu (Wind.)
 
वायोस्ते जस्ततश्च पस्ततः पृथ्वीसमुद्भवः
 
एतानि पञ्चतत्वानि विस्तीर्णानि च पंचधा ॥ ७ ॥
 
From Vayu originated Teja (Fire), from Teja the Waters
and from Waters the Earth. These are the Five Elements
and each of these is further differentiated into five- thus in
all there come into existence twentyfive Elements.
 
तेभ्यो ब्रह्माण्डमुत्पन्नं तैरेव परिवर्त्तते ।
 
विलीयते च तत्रैव तत्रैव रमते पुनः ॥ ८ ॥
 
The Universe originated from the Elements which
preserve the Universe and ultimately the Universe dissolves
into these Elements.
 
पञ्चतत्त्वये देहे पञ्चातत्त्वानि सुन्दर ।
 
सूक्ष्मरूपेण वर्त्तन्ते ज्ञायन्तेतत्त्वयोगिभिः ॥ ९ ॥
 
My Beauty ! In the body, which originates from the Five
Elements, reside all these Five Elements in subtle form. All
the Tatva-yogis know this.
 
अथ स्वरं प्रवक्ष्यामि शरीरस्थस्वरोदयम् ।
 
हंसचारस्वरूपेण भवेज्ज्ञानं त्रिकालजम् ॥ १० ॥
 
Now I describe the science of the origin of the Svaras
