PREFATORY NOTE TO THE TEXT

This Edition of the Anthology of Sarngadhara is based upon
the following manuscripts:

A. An incomplete manuscript procured by me for the
Government of Bombay in the year 1886-7. Leaves 1 to 253,
stopping in the middle of our No. 4153. There is therefore no
date: and it can only be conjectured from the appearance of
the manuscript that it belongs to the 16th century. It is, so
far as I can judge, very correct.

B. A complete copy also procured by me in 1886-7 for the
Government of Bombay. Leaves 1 to 295, containing the book
up to our No. 4620, the proper end. Very beautifully written
by a Jain scribe: but neither so old nor so correct as A.

C. A manuscript belonging to my friend Pandit Durga-
prasad. Samvat 1776. Complete, and containing the Khadga-
pariksha chapter (placed by me at the end of the book as an
appendix) after the Turangaprasansa chapter, as in Aufrecht's
MS. C.

D. An incomplete copy lent to me by Mr. Jyeshtaram
Mukundji. Leaves 1 to 144, stopping in the middle of our

No. 1558.

E. A manuscript lent to me, through Mr. Jyeshtaram Mu-
kundji, our enterprising Sanskrit bookseller, by Seth Dhanaji
Mahayaji. Samyat 1819. Complete.
