sit down and with folded hands spoke
these words :
YUDDHAKANDA
अप्युपायैस्त्रिभिस्तात योऽर्थः प्राप्तं न शक्यते ।
तस्य विक्रमकालांस्तान् युक्तानाहुर्मनीषिणः ॥
"Dear (brother), the wise say that the
proper occasions for the use of force are
when one's object has proved unreali-
sable by all the three (prior) expedients.
किं च राक्षसराजस्य रामेणापकृतं पुरा ।
आजहार जनस्थानाद् यस्य भार्या यशस्विनः ॥
Besides, what prior wrong had been
done to the Rakshasa king by the renow-
ned Rama, whose wife was carried away
by him from Janasthana ?
अयशस्यमनायुष्यं परदाराभिमर्शनम् ।
एतन्निमित्तं वैदेहीभयं नः सुमहद्भवेत् ॥
To have carnal knowledge of another's
wife is ruinous to one's good name and
to one's life.
On
account of this, Vaidehi
will be the cause of the greatest danger
to us.
