THE RAMAYANA
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा हनुमान् हरियूथपः ।
दुःखदुःखाभिभूतायाः सान्त्वमुत्तरमब्रवीत् ॥
Hearing those words of that lady who
was overpowered with grief, Hanuman,
the leader of the monkey-hosts, himself
distressed, uttered this soothing reply :
अहं रामस्य सन्देशादेवि दूतस्तवागतः ।
वैदेहि कुशली रामस्त्वां च कौशलमत्रवीत् ॥
"O Queen, at the command of Rama,
I am come to you as his messenger,
O Vaidehi, Rama is well and he enquired
of your welfare.
लक्ष्मणश्च महातेजा भर्तुस्तेऽनुचरः प्रियः ।
कृता वा शोकसन्तप्तः शिरसा तेऽभिवादनम् ॥
And the highly effulgent Lakshmana
also who is a dear follower of your
husband, makes his obeisance
to you
with his head, being highly distressed
with grief."
सा तयोः कुशलं देवी निशम्य नरसिंहयोः ।
प्रीतिसंहृष्टसर्वाङ्गी हनुमन्तमथाब्रवीत् ॥
