ARANYAKANDA

Seeing the rare exploit of Rama,

Surpanakha, being highly agitated, went

to Lanka, protected by Ravana.

The demoness, angry and agitated by

fear, spoke these harsh words to Ravana

the destroyer of foes, seated amidst his

ministers :

"The subjects do not care much for

the king who is addicted to vulgar

pleasures, does what he likes and is

miserly, even as they do not care for

the fire in the burning ground.

I consider you without spies and

surrounded by vulgar ministers, as you

do not know the slaughter of your own

people at Janasthana.
