O dear child, either out of love or out
of greed, this has been done for you by
your mother. But you should not brood
on this in your mind. You must behave
towards her as is proper towards one's
mother."

THE RAMAYANA

To Kausalya's son Rama, who resem-
bled the sun in lustre and the moon of
pratipat in beauty, and who told him
thus, Bharata said :

O noble one, place your feet on these
sandals ornamented with gold.

These

two shall dispense the welfare of all the
world."

The best of men, Rama, of exceeding
mounting and dismounting
from the two sandals, gave them to the

effulgence,

high-souled Bharata.
