AYODHYAKANDA
 
अहं त्वरण्ये वत्स्यामि न मे राज्यस्य काङ्क्षिता ॥

I shall, of course, live in the forest.

have no longing for the kingdom.
 

 
नव पञ्च च वर्षाणि वनवासे विहृत्य ते ।

पुनः पादौ ग्रहीष्यामि प्रतिज्ञान्ते नराधिप ।
 

Enjoying for nine and five years the

life of the forest, O king, I shall, at the

end of the vow, hold your feet again (in

veneration)."
 

 
रुदन्नार्तः प्रियं पुत्र सत्यपाशेन संयतः ।

कैकेय्या चोद्यमानस्तु मिथो राजा तमत्ब्रवीत् ॥

Lamenting and distressed, the king,

being bound by the bonds of truth and

secretly instigated by Kaikeyi, said to his

beloved son Rama:
 

 
श्रेयसे वृद्धये तात पुनरागमनाय च ।

गच्छस्वारिष्टमव्यग्रः पन्थानमकुतोभयम् ॥
 

"O darling, for your name (hereafter)

and prosperity (here below) and quick

return, proceed calmly on your auspicious

and perfectly safe way."
