AYODHYAKANDA
 
स रामः पितरं कृत्वा कैकेयीं च प्रदक्षिणम् ।

निष्क्रम्यान्तःपुरात्तस्मात् स्वं ददर्श सुहृज्जनम् ॥
 

Rama, going round his father and

Kaikeyi and coming out of those inner

apartments, met his own friends.
 

 
न चास्य महतीं लक्ष्मीं राज्यनाशोऽपकर्षति ॥

Nor does the loss of the kingdom

diminish his great splendour.
 

 
वाचा मधुरया रामः सर्वं संमानयञ्जनम् ।

मातुस्समीपं धीरात्मा प्रविवेश महायशाः ॥
 

Honouring all men with sweet words,

Rama, of a courageous soul and great

fame, went near his mother.
 

 
स मातरमभिक्रान्तामुपसंगृह्य राघवः ।

परिष्वक्तश्च बाहुभ्यामुपाघ्रातश्च मूर्धनि ।

मातरं राघवः किञ्चिद्द्रीडात् प्राञ्जलिरब्रवीत् ॥
 

Clasping his mother as she approached

and having been embraced with both her

hands and smelt on the crown, Raghava

with folded hands said to his mother with

a little hesitation :
