it is mentioned that Yuvaraja the patron of the poet Abhinanda was a ruling
prince 1.
Soddhala flourished in the court of the three royal brothers Cchittarája,
Nāgārjuna and Mumminirāja of Konkaņa' and from the inscription dated 1026
A. D. of Cchittarāj& we can assign him to the early part of the 11th century.
That Haravarsa the Yuvaraja was a ruling prince can also be ascertained from
at least seven passages taken at random from the Râmacarita of Abhinanda :-
नमो नृपतिचन्द्राय पृथ्वीपालाय येन सा ।

हालेनोत्तमपूजया कविवृषा श्रीपालितां लालितः
ख्यातिं कामपि कालिदासकृतयो नीताः शकारातिना ।
श्रीहर्षो विततार गद्यकवये बाणाय वाणीफलं
सद्यस्सत्क्रिययाऽभिनन्दमपि च श्रीहारवर्षोऽग्रहीत् ॥ XXXIII.
शकभूपरिपोरनन्तरं कवयः कुल पवित्रसङ्कथाः ।
युवराज इवायमीक्षितो नृपतिः काव्यकलाकुतूहली ॥ XXII.
These passages show that Haravarsa, the Yuvaraja was a ruling prince
who patronized Abhinanda in the capacity of a sovereign. In the present
work this prince is also said to be extraordinarily powerful in battlefields and is
described to have carried his victorious arms into the territories of his
contemporaries and extirpated all his enemies. This fact may be proved by
the following verses, contained in the Ramacarita.
एते तवैकसुभगस्य जयन्ति पादाः श्रीहाखर्षयुवराजमहीतलेन्दो ।
यान्सप्रतापभुवनेऽपि सदाऽभिमृत्य रात्रौ दिवा च रिपुराजरमा रमन्ते ॥ VII.
सुदृढविपुलगात्रः शत्रुकीटान्तकारी etc. XXVI.
1. सृष्टं तदत्र युवराजनरेश्वरेण यदुष्करं किमपि येन गिरः श्रियश्च ।
