KARŠANİĪYA--One of the four broad varieties of

enemy, the other varieties being Yaātavya, Ucch-
edani

edanī
ya, and Pidaniīḍanīya. When conditions are

just the reverse of under which an enemy is

reckoned as Ucchedaniīya, the enemy is to be

treated as either Pidaniīḍanīya or karsaniśanīya. The

present term implies that the enemy is fit to be

troubled by way of putting him to loss of wealth.

cf. viparyaye piīḍanīyaḥ karśanīyo vā (AS' VI. 2).

 
KĀNĪNA--The son born to a woman before her

marriage, is called a Kaniānīna-putra of the man

who marries her. Manu Sam. IX. 172.
