ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The Nilakantha-Vijaya Champu, with Mahadeva Suri's
commentary, was first published in Deva-nagari in 1924 by the
Balamanorama Press, Mylapore. It has long been out of print.
To meet the needs of students and scholars, the Samskrit
Education Society has brought out a new edition of the work.
The authorities of the Society are grateful to the proprietors of
the Balamanorama Press for their permission to utilise their
edition and to include in this volume the valuable Preface
contributed to it by the late Mahamahopadhyaya S. Kuppuswami
Sastrigal.
Panditaraja K. Balasubrahmanya Sastrigal, Retired Principal
of the Madras Sanskrit College, has edited the work for the
present issue, and contributed a useful tippani. To him and to
Pandit T. K. Pranatarthiharan of the Samskrit Education Society,
who assisted him in the editing, and to Pandit V. Srivatsanka-
charya of the Madras Sanskrit College, who has written a Sanskrit
Preface, the Society offers its thanks. A brief Introduction in
English by Sri N. Raghunatha Iyer, President of the Society, has
also been added. These and the other aids to study provided
in the Indexes added at the end will, it is hoped, facilitate the
study and appreciation of this brilliant work.
