Khadira ( Acacia catechu Willd. ) is a wild

thorny tree ( kantṇṭaki, bahuśalya ), the spines being

curved (jihmaśalya ). Wood is regarded as holy and

used in sacrifices ( gaāyatriī, yajñiya ). It has firm and

red heart-wood (sāradruma, raktasāra ) and small

leaves ( baālapatra ). Twigs are used as tooth-brush

( dantadhāvana ). Khadira is a specific drug for lep-

rosy ( kustṣṭhaghna ) and is also efficacious in obes-

ity (moedoghna) and disorders of throat (galaroganut).
