Nāmarūpajñānam
Kūsmānda ( Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn. )
is regarded as the best among cucurbitaceous fruits
( valliphalottama ). It bears yellow flowers ( pita-
puspa ) and fruits big ( brhatphala ), hard ( sthira-
phala ), pitcher-like ( kumbhaphalā ) and watery
( somasrstā ) carrying remnants of flowers (puspa-
phala ). It is śītavīrya and there is no heat even in
seeds ( kusmānda ).
