Kantṇṭakārī ( Solanum surattense Burm. f. ) is a

common plant available everywhere ( rāstrika ),
ṣṭrikā),
straggling ( dhāvanī ), thorny ( kantakari, kantṇṭakāri, kaṇṭakinī ),

difficult to touch ( duhḥsparśa.), in clusters ( kulī ),

with small and variegated fruits ( ksṣudraphalā, citra-

phalā ) and growing fastly ( nidigdhikaā). It liquifies

kapha, alleviates cough ( kaāsaghnī ), obesity, mucous
coating (nidigdhika
coating (nidigdhikā ), diseases of nose etc. and pro-

motes voice ( vyāghrī ). Thus 'kantakārī' is actually

( 'kanthakāī ) ( wholesome for throat ) and as such

included in kanthya group by Caraka.
