Kantakārī ( Solanum surattense Burm. f. ) is a
common plant available everywhere ( rāstrika ),
straggling ( dhāvanī ), thorny ( kantakari, kantakinī ),
difficult to touch ( duhsparśa.), in clusters ( kulī ),

with small and variegated fruits ( ksudraphalā, citra-
phalā ) and growing fastly ( nidigdhika). It liquifies
kapha, alleviates cough ( kasaghnī ), obesity, mucous
coating (nidigdhika ), diseases of nose etc. and pro-
motes voice ( vyāghrī ). Thus 'kantakārī' is actually
( 'kanthakāī ) ( wholesome for throat ) and as such
included in kanthya group by Caraka.
