Udumbara ( Ficus glomerata Roxb. ) is one of
the milky trees (krīravṛksa) having golden latex
(hemadugdha ) used in sacrifices ( yajñāriga ) with
bark as śita ( śītavalkala ). It has no apparent flow-
ers (puspaśūnya) and bears fruits all the year round

sadāphala ). Fruits have eye in the receptacle ( saca-
ksu ) through which insects enter inside (for polli-
nation ) and thus become full of them ( jantuphala ).
The ripe fruits are eaten which promote strength
