The plant (Sesbania grandiflora (Linn.) Pers.)
is known as Agastya or Agasti because it blossems
at the time when the star Agastya appears in sky
(in autumn season) and also eliminates toxins. It
bears flowers fastly (śīghrapuṣpa ) which are curved
(vakrapuṣpa); in one of the varieties they are red
(raktapuṣpa). Fruits are long (dīrghaphalaka ). It
is useful in wounds (vraṇāri ). It flowers rapidly

Priyanighantu adds two synonyms-śiṃśapā-
patraka (having leaves like those of śiṃśapă) and
ardhendupuṣpaka (having flowers of semi-lunar shape).
Specific characters
1. Flowers-curved, characteristic of papillio-
natae, opening in autumn.
2. Fruits-long.
3. Actions-antitoxic and wound-healing.
