Śle
handsome middle-sized tree ( kāntav
ing wildly in hilly areas ( Sailusa, saīlu ). Fragrant
flowers ( gandhapuspa ) appear in spring ( vāsanta-
kusuma ). Fruits are pearl-shaped (muktaphala ), in
abundance (bahuphala), with slimy and sticky pulp
( picchila ). The slimy fruits-pulp is used as glue to
stick paper (lekhaśataka ). Fruit is cold in touch as
well as virya ( Sitaphala ). As drug, it excites kapha
( slesmātaka ) and induces sleep (Selu ). The plant
is efficacious in many disorders (uddāla, bahuvāra )
and is anti-poisonous ( visaghatī ). It is disliked by
noble persons and also by birds ( dvijakutsita ).
