Vidanga (Embelia ribes Burm. f.) is a shrub
growing in hilly region mostly of North-East
(kirīta), with delicate and flexible branches it looks
like a weak plant ( vella). Seeds are peculiarly white
spotted ( citratandula, śvetatandula ). It is unfailing
( amoghā ) remedy for worms ( krmighna, jantu-
nāśana, vidanga, bhasmaka ) regarded as the best of
anthelmintic drugs ( kirita ). It is used commonly in
Kerala ( kairala ). Vidanga is also used in veterinary
medicine ( mrgagāminī ).
