Lajjālu ( Mimosa pudica Linn. ) grows in damp
regions ( jalakarnikaṇikā ) spreading around (samarigā ).
It has leaves like those of śamiī or khadira (śamiī-
patrā, khidirakā ) which are sensitive and close to-
gether on touch ( sparśasaikocaparnṅkocaparṇikā, sparśaro-
danikaṅikā, añjalikārikaā, namaskāriī, lajjaālu ). Roots are
red (raktapādī ). It is a good haemostatic agent
( asrarodhinī ) and useful in menorrhagia ( puspaṣpā-
varodhiniī). It is also a remedy for enlarged glands
( gandṇḍakālikā ).
