७. पलङ्कषा (प०) – पलं मांसं कषति हिनस्ति, लेखनीत्यर्थः ।
८. भिक्षुः (भा०) – वापितमुण्डवत्पुष्पत्वात् भिक्षुवद् दृश्यमाना ।
९. भूतघ्नी (प०) – भूतानि हन्ति ।
१०. श्रवणशीर्षिका (भा०) – श्रवणनक्षत्रगते सूर्ये शीर्षं फलं जायते-
ऽस्याः । 'श्रावणी' 'श्रवणाह्वा' इत्यनयोरपि स एवार्थः ।
 
Muṇḍī ( Sphaeranthus indicus Linn. ) is a plant
of Compositae family having compound heads of
flowers ( muṇḍi, muṇḍitikā, bhikṣu, tapodhanā ), re-
sembling those of kadamba ( kadambapuṣpī) and of
reddish violet colour ( aruṇā ). The plant flowers in
winter and thereafter bears fruits in śravaṇa constel-
lation (sśravaṇaśīrṣikā śrāvaṇiī, Śśravanṇāhvā ). It yields
plenty of chaff (alambusṣā ). As drug, it destroys evil
organisms and worms ( bhūtaghnī ) and is anti-obes-
ity ( palariṅkasṣā ).
 
Specific characters
 
1. Flowers — in compound heads, of reddish
violet colour, appearing in winter.
2. Fruits — appear shortly after flowering.
3. Actions—destroys evil organisms and worms
and is anti-obesity.
