Nāmarūpajñānam
Mārnsī ( Nardostachys jatamansi DC ) grows on
high altitude (kirātinī, tapasvinī). The rhizome with
root, useful part, is covered with fibres like matted
hair blackish grey in colour ( krsnajata, jatamāmsī,
jatila, misī, sulomaśa ) and highly aromatic (nalada ).
It dispels evil organisms ( bhūtajata ), causes ema-
ciation and loss of fat (māmsī, kravyādī, piīśācī,
piśita, palaikasā ) and is a good sedative and hyp-
notic like mother ( mātā ).
Specific characters
1. Habitat—high altitude.
2. Rhizome— with root, the useful part, is cov-
ered with fibres like matted hair, blackish
grey and highly aromatic.
