plant ( agraha, rodinī, nikantaka ) growing in arid
zone (marūdbhava, dhanvayāsa ) particularly in
Gandhāra ( gāndhārī ). It is of spreading nature and
runs upto the seacoast (ananta, samudrānata ).
Leaves are small ( balapatra ). Root is of coppery
colour ( tāmramūli ), goes deep ( dirghamūla, dura-
labhā ) and is astringent in taste ( kasāyā ). Fruits
are hairy and cause itching on touch ( kacchurā ).
