Cakramarda (Cassia tora Linn.) is a herb known
by the word 'meṣa' (meṣāhvaya, eḍagaja) as its leaves
and flowers resemble sheep's eye ( meṣalocana,
meṣākṣikusuma ). It grows gregariously ( cakrī ),
blossoms at sunrise ( padmaṭa ) and leaves contract
at sun-set ( vyāvartaka ). Seeds are hard ( dṛḍhabīja )
and useful in treatment of skin diseases particularly
ring worm and itching ( cakramarda kuṣṭhahā, khar
jūghna, pāmaghātī, dadrughna ). It has adverse ef-
fect on virility ( prapunnaṭa ).
