Cakramarda (Cassia tora Linn.) is a herb known

by the word 'mesa' (mesāhvaya, edagaja) as its leaves

and flowers resemble sheep's eye ( mesalocana,
meş

meṣ
āksikusuma ). It grows gregariously ( cakriī ),

blossoms at sun-rise ( padmata ) and leaves contract

at sun-set ( vyāvartaka ). Seeds are hard ( drdṛḍhabiīja )

and useful in treatment of skin diseases particularly

ring worm and itching ( cakramarda kusthahaṣṭhahā, khar

juūghna, pāmaghātī, dadrughna ). It has adverse ef-

féect on virility ( prapunnata ).
