excellence of her own kavya indirectly thus " क्वचिदर्थः क्वचिच्छब्दः

The epics that were in vogue till then, were not artistically
full fledged. They were defective in one part or other and so
deformed. So this poetess indicated at the commencement of her
kavya that while, the elements of words, meaning, loftiness of
thought, sentiments, sweetness, were dealt with by other kavyas
separately, she has blended them all harmoniously and collectively
in her own. As she is a dignified poetess, she expressed her ideals
through this kavya in a veiled manner.

In sustaining 'Rasa' (sentiment) this poetess took special care
having become absorbed in it. This 'Madhuravijayam' is a great
epic predominantly heroic in sentiment like 'Sisupalavadha'. In
this, Kamparaja said to be the incarnation of Maha Vishnu, is
the hero punishing the wicked and saving the world are its domi-

nent sentiments as parts to the main body sentiment of heroism.
The descriptions of the battles between Kamparaja and the
Muslims are merely contributory to the main sentiment of this
kavya. In the context of dealing with the administration of
Kanchipuram, references to the royal entertainments and pleasures
of Kamparaja, his romances have been depicted with great pro-
priety. To enliven and stimulate that Sringara Rasa, (love)
copious descriptions of the seasons, of the gathering of flowers, of
resorts to swimming, of the rising and setting of the Sun and the
Moon were pressed into service. In detailing battles incidents,
sentiments of humour, fear and fright are appropriately introduced.
The element of surprise or wonder was also touched by the supply
of divine weapons by Kumbha Sambhava to Kamparaja, even as
sage Agastya has equipped Rama with Astras for the destruction
