'अङ्ग दुर्योधनं कृष्ण मन्द्रं शास्त्रातिगं मम ।

अनुनेतुं महाबाहो यतस्व पुरुषोत्तम ।
 
THE MAHABHARATA

' 0 mighty Krishna, you best of men,

try to conciliate my stupid and law-

less son, Duryodhana.
 

 
'अनुशाधि दुरात्मानं स्वयं दुर्योधनं नृपम् ।

सुहृत्कार्ययं तु सुमहत् कृतं ते स्याज्जनार्दन ॥'
 

" Krishna, you yourself advise this evil

king Duryodhana; you would have done a

very great work for a friend."
 

 
ततोऽभ्यावृत्य वाष्र्ष्णेयो दुर्योधनममर्षणम् ।

अब्रवीन्मधुरां वाचं सर्वधर्मार्थतत्त्ववित् ॥
 

Turning round, Krishna, who knows the

truth of all principles of Dharma and

Artha, spoke then these sweet words

to the ill-tempered Duryodhana :

'दुर्योधन निबोधेदं मद्वाक्यं कुरुसत्तम ।

शमार्थथं ते विशेषेण सानुबन्धस्य [भारत] ॥
