THE MAHABHARATA
'स्वयं त्वहं प्रार्थये तत्र गन्तुं
समाधातुं कार्यमेतद्विपन्नम् ।
अहापयित्वा यदि पाण्डवार्थ
शमं कुरुणामपि चेच्छकेयम् ।
पुण्यं च मे स्याच्चरितं महोदयं
मुच्येरंश्च कुरवो मृत्युपाशात् ॥
"I myself wish to go there in person
to set aright this affair that has gone
wrong. If, without spoiling the cause of
the Pandavas, I am able to secure peace
for the Kauravas, meritorious and highly
fruitful will the part I play be and freed
indeed will the Kauravas be from the
noose of death.
'स्थिताश्शुश्रूषितुं पार्थाः स्थिता योद्धुमरिन्दमाः ।
यत्कृत्यं धृतराष्ट्रस्य तत्करोतु नराधिपः ॥ '
"Ready are the Pandavas to serve;
ready are they, the sub luers of enemies,
to fight; what king Dhritarashtra wants
to do, let him do."
