nagar victory thus: "After his (Kampaņa's) victory,
he established himself at Kānçi and ruled the
Tundira (Tondaimandalam) kingdom protecting it
from anarchy. From that great city of Maratakanagara,
he ruled the earth peacefully and well". An inscrip-
tion corroborates the poet thus: "Kampana Udaiyar
became permanent on the throne after taking possession
of Räjagambhirarājya". 27

There is absolutely no need for any doubt regarding the identification
of Maratakanagara. 'Maratakanagara' and 'Kanci' have been used
