यथासंख्यम् Yathāsamṃkhyam : Relative Order :
 

 
Yathāsamṃkhya literally means description of something in a relative order.

Rhetorically it occurs when a reference about some object is poeti-

cally given in a methodical order or sequence. This figure is other-

wise termed Samṃkhyaāna or Krama by some scholars.
 

 
The salient features of this alamṃkāra are as follows:
 

(i) there is a reference to two or more objects,
 

(ii)
 
these objects are ideally set in a proper sequence (ie one

after another),
 

(iii)
 
the contextual and the non-contextual (ie the upameya

and the upamāna or the prastuta and the aprastuta) are

given in a definite order,
 

(iv) either some words or ideas are put in a proper order,

(v) some ideas are connected together in such a sequence

that the entire meaning of the statement becomes

revealed in the order of one idea focussing the another

in the given order.
 

 
eg 1. satrum mitramśatruṃ mitraṃ dvisṣat paksam
ṣaṃ
jaya ranjaya bhanñjaya.
