TTT (50). The additional verses in the Madras paper script
 
are seven.
 
2. The second is a palmleaf Ms. in the Grantha script and
it is also lying in the Government Oriental Mss. Library, Madras
(D. 12110). It omits eight verses of Kävyamālā text. These
omitted verses are as under :
 
अन्तः कर्कशता (35), एष श्रीमान् (36), ग्राबाणो मणय : (50), ग्रावग्रस्त (98),
दान।र्थिनः (105), विख्यातं (106), विशालं (107) and अयं वाराम् (108).
It adds five verses bringing the total number to 105.
 
3. The third manuscript is in palmleaf and in Malayam script
and belongs to Adyar Library, Adyar (40 C.8, Catalogue II,
p. 8b). This manuscript of Adyar has one hundred and eight
verses. It omits 35, 36, 50, 105 and 106 omitted also by previous
Mss. This also shows changes in verse order 'and different
readings. This Ms. adds five new verses.
 
4. The fourth manuscript is a commentary on Bhallata Sataka
written by Maheśvara in a Devanagarī transcript from a Malabar
original and is No. R. 2907 of the Govt. Oriental Manuscript
Library, Madras. It has one hundred and five verses. The follow-
ing verses in the Kävyamālā text are omitted by this commentary:
किं दीर्घदीर्घेषु (24), न पक्कादु (25), फलितघन (30), अन्त:, (35), एष श्रीमान् (36),
ग्राब (98), प्रेसन्मयूख (104), दानार्थिनः (105) and विख्यातं (106). To the
remaining ninety-nine verses the commentary adds six new
verses. The commentary also shows differences in verse-order
and readings.
 
Regarding the value of these three manuscripts and the
commentary, one cannot be enthusiastic, for in all of them, we
find the two verses which we know are Anandavardhana's and
Bhaṭṭendurāja's.
 
8. MANUSCRIPTS USED IN THE PREPARATION OF THE
PRESENT EDITION OF BHALLATA SATAKA
 
To edit the text and Sanskrit commentary of the present
critical edition of Bhallata Sataka, the following Mss. have
