हतेषु षट्सु बालेषु देवक्या औग्रसेनिना ।
सप्तमो वैष्णवं धाम यमनन्तं प्रचक्षते ।
गर्भो बभूव देवक्या हर्षशोकविवर्धनः ॥
When six sons of Devaki had been
killed by Kamsa, that partial manifesta-
tion of the Lord whom they call Ananta,
became the seventh child in the womb of
Devaki, causing at once great delight and
great sorrow.
भगवानपि विश्वात्मा विदित्वा कंसजं भयम् ।
यदूनां निजनाथानां योगमायां समादिशत् ॥
And the Lord who is the Soul of the
universe, understanding the fear inspired
by Kamsa in the Yadus of whom He was
to become the chief, directed (His own
Mystic Power), the Goddess Yogamaya :
* Jarasandha, the Magadha king, was Kamsa's
father-in-law.
