SRIMAD BHAGAVATA
 

 
अथारुह्य रथं दिव्यं विकर्षन्ध्वजिनीं विभुः ।

ययाविन्द्रपुरीं स्वृद्धां विश्वकर्मविनिर्मिताम् ।

यां न व्रजन्त्यधर्मिष्ठाः खला भूत द्रहश्शठाः ।

मानिनः कामिनो लुब्धा एभिर्हींना ब्व्रजन्ति यत् ॥
 

Mounting a celestial chariot then and

dragging an army after him, king Bali

went against the highly prosperous city

of Indra, built by Visvakarman, to which

the unrighteous and the wicked, enemies

of beings, knaves, haughty persons, men

of passion and greed go not, but to which

those free from these sins go.
 

 
तां देवधानीं स वरूथिनीपतिः

बहिस्समन्ताद्दु रुषेरुधे पृतन्यया ॥
 

Bali, the head of the army, laid siege to

the capital of the gods with his army.
 

 
मघवावांस्तमभिप्रेत्य बलेः परममुद्यमम् ।

सर्वदेवगणोपेतो गुरुमेतदुवाच ह ॥
