gentle smile: "Good or bad, if you would

accept whatever I do, I shall divide this

nectar amongst you."

(The demons) approved of what She

spoke, saying: "Let it be so."
 

 
प्राङ्मुखेषूपविष्टेषु सुरेषु दितिजेषु च ।

कल्पयित्वा पृथक्पङ्क्तीरुभयेषां जगत्पतिः ।

दैत्यान्गृहीतकलशो वञ्चयन्नुपसञ्चरैः ।

दूरस्थान्पाययामास जरामृत्युहरां सुधाम् ॥
 

When the gods and the demons had

sat facing the east, the Lord of the uni-

verse made two separate rows for the

two ; and with the nectar-vessel in his

hand, He deceived the demons, merely

approaching them often (with sweet

gestures and words), and made (the gods),

sitting at a distance, drink that nectar

which destroyed old age and death.
