SRIMAD BHAGAVATA
 
तथाऽभियाचितो देवैर्ऋषिराथर्वणो महान् ।

'किन्नु तद्दुस्त्यजं ब्रह्मन्पुंसां भूतानुकम्पिनाम् ॥'

The great sage Dadhichi was

accordingly besought by the gods (for

his limbs ) : "O Brahmin ! for men who

are compassionate towards beings, what

is there that is too hard to part with?"
 

 
ऋषिः-

'
योऽध्रवेणात्मना नाथा न धर्मं च यशः पुमान् ।

ईहेत भूतदयया स शोच्यः स्थावरैरपि ॥'
 

The sage

The sage-

"Masters! he is to be pitied even by

inanimate things who, with kindness to

beings, desires not (to secure) through

his impermanent body Dharma or fame."
 

 
एवं कृतव्यवसितो दध्यङ्का<flag></flag>थर्वणस्तनुम् ।

परे भगवति ब्रह्मण्यात्मानं संनयञ्जहौ ॥
 

Having determined thus. Dadhichi

offered his soul to the Suprenie Lord, the

Brahman, and gave up his body.
