<p lang="sa">In an article published in the "Bulletin of the Rama
Varma Research Institute", Vol. V. part I. (Jan. 1937) the
late Professor Dr. M. Winternitz concludes with 'an appeal
to our friends and colleagues in the country of Malabar' to
provide us with a critical edition of the thirteen plays
ascribed to Bhāsa for which there is ample manuscript
material in that country. In the meanwhile we have to
remain satisfied with the Trivandrum edition and editions
of individual plays based on the same. As early as 1925,
I published my edition of the Svapnavāsavadatta which
was based upon two MSS. in Malayalam characters, trans-
cribed in Devanagari, and sent on to me by Mr. K. Rama
Pisharodi. I have further used MSS. of the following
plays of the group from the Bhandarkar Research Institute;-
