Different views are current about the date of Dandin.
According to some, he belonged to the 6th century A.D.,
and according to others, to the 8th century A.D. Bat
from internal evidence in the Avantisundarī his date
can be fixed to the close of the 7th or the early part
of the 8th century A. D.

Simhavisnu that Damodara, the great-grand-father of
Dandin, acquired the friendship of Prince Visnuvardhana
through Bharavi and that he was twenty years old when

dynasty. This makes Simhavisnu, Darvinita, Visnuvardhana,
Bharavi and Damodara contemporaries. Since in the
literary history the only author known by the name
Bhātavi the author of Kiratarjuniya, and since the
epithets महाशैव, महाप्रभाव and गवां प्रभव well apply to him,
the Bharavi mentioned in this work should be identified
with him. From the Aihole inscription in A.D. 634,
