as convincing proof that the works are by different
authors when the contrary established by categorical

statement.

This work was taken up for publication when
Dr. P. K. Nārāyaṇa Pillai was the Curator of this
Library. The work was edited and prepared for publication
by Sri K. S. Mahadeva Sastr, under the direction of
of Sri Narayana Pillai. The edition, as above stated is
based entirely on one manuscript and that too defective
(No. 10863) secured by Sri E. V. Raman Nambatiri.
The editors have not, therefore, been able to convince
themselves that the readings are quite correct. Several
portions of the manuscript have crumbled down, and
so the text as now available is full of lacuneæ. Scribal
errors are also numerous which make the work of the
editors extremely difficult. But they have endeavoured
to the best of their ability to present as good an edition
of the work as possible. Their apology is that this
work, with all the shortcomings of the present edition,
IS bound to be of immense interest to the students
of Sanskrit literature.

We hope that the indulgent scholars will overlook
the defects and extend their warm welcome to this
publication.
